Education

Richard Greer attended public schools in Mountain Brook, Alabama, and graduated from Mountain Brook High School. In 1975, he graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee with a B.A. degree in Economics. In 1978, Mr. Greer graduated from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University, in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was Associate Editor of The American Journal of Trial Advocacy and a member of the Trial Advocacy Board. In addition to general law school curriculum, Mr. Greer studied international law in 1977 while attending summer school at the University of Exeter Law School in Exeter, England .

Past Employment Positions

Mr. Greer's first job as a lawyer was with a general practice law firm in Shelby County, Alabama, where his areas of practice included general civil litigation, collections, real estate law and litigation, family law, and worker's compensation law. After approximately three years, he joined a business law and litigation firm in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, where his areas of practice included business and commercial litigation, bankruptcy litigation, commercial collections, construction law and litigation, employee benefits litigation (ERISA), employment law and litigation, general civil litigation, and real estate law and litigation. Mr. Greer left that firm in 1995 when it had 30 lawyers and formed his own firm in Birmingham, Alabama. His Alabama law and litigation practice includes business and commercial law, commercial collections, construction law, contract law, employment law (employer), leasing law (residential and commercial), non-compete/non-disclosure law, and real estate law.

Mr. Greer is a charter member of the Vestavia Hills (Alabama) Chamber of Commerce and served for several years on its board of directors and as its legal counsel. He has received several service awards from the Chamber, has been named Board Member of the Year, and has received the President's Award for distinguished performance. From 1994 through 2002, Mr. Greer coached youth baseball in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Mr. Greer's additional interests include physical fitness, college football and basketball, hiking, building and carpentry, gardening, landscape architecture, and domestic and foreign travel.
