Business and Commercial Law

Construction Law

Too often, design professionals, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and materialmen fail to protect their interests in a timely manner and lose money on a project, turning what could have been a profit into a loss. Whether you are involved in a private or a public project, please take the time to find out what your rights are as early in the project as possible. Your remedies will not be the same in every project; but, depending on the facts and how quickly you contact me, I can help you develop a strategy that maximizes your chances of getting paid in full without disrupting the business relationship you depend on for future profits. If the business relationship has already been lost, then I can take more aggressive action to protect your interests.

Construction Law & Litigation

I provide advice and handle litigation relating to the following construction law matters:

  • Collection of unpaid accounts for labor and materials

  • Defective bids, plans, and specifications

  • Defective construction, design, engineering, manufacturing, materials, and workmanship

  • Disputes involving commercial and residential owners, builders, contractors, developers, and design professionals

  • Mechanic's liens and materialmen's liens, including preparation, filing, and enforcement

  • Payment bond claims

Although the largest percentage of my clients are located in Jefferson County (including Birmingham, Bessemer, Homewood, Hoover, Hueytown, McCalla, Mt. Brook and Vestavia Hills) and Shelby County (including Chelsea, Columbiana, Helena, Pelham and Riverchase), Alabama, a considerable number reside in or have principal offices located in States across the country, including California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Another significant portion of my practice is derived from lawyer referrals, including serving as local counsel in Alabama for out-of-state litigants and handling matters in Alabama for in-house counsel.

If you need an experienced Alabama construction law and litigation lawyer who will diligently and effectively protect your best interests, while also providing greater value than the big firm model, then please call me or email me so we can get to work on solving your problem.
